adidas Running & Training

adidas Training was the biggest consumer app I'd worked on. The company ran on the Spotify model — tribes, squads, chapters — and I joined the Training squad as one of two iOS engineers who owned a slice of the product end to end. SwiftUI had just shipped and most teams were waiting; I picked it up, built the first SwiftUI components in the app, and showed the rest of the chapter it was ready for real features.

When Runtastic folded fully into adidas and the Training app merged into Running, I moved over to the Running squad. The scale was the same, but the problems leaned harder into real-time tracking and keeping people coming back — and it was the chapter where I worked most closely with the data team, watching what people actually did with a feature and adjusting.

We instrumented features with Adjust and Emarsys, then sat with the numbers to find where retention leaked. I also ran user interviews directly, so feature decisions had real voices behind them and not just dashboards.
