The Story
When Runtastic folded fully into adidas and the Training app merged into Running, I moved over to the Running squad. The scale was the same, but the problems leaned harder into real-time tracking and keeping people coming back.
This was the chapter where I worked most closely with the data team — not shipping a feature and hoping, but watching what people actually did with it and adjusting.
Core Engineering Work
- 01Built navigation features and live activity tracking for runs.
- 02Shipped home-screen widgets and Live Activities that put an in-progress run in the Dynamic Island.
- 03Added the goals-and-badges system, shoe tracking, and intensity-based workouts.
- 04Partnered with the data team on engagement analytics — which features earned their place, which didn't, and how to onboard more people.
Analytics & Retention
We instrumented features with Adjust and Emarsys, then sat with the numbers to find where retention leaked.
I also ran user interviews directly, so feature decisions had real voices behind them and not just dashboards.
